July 29, 2016   Churchill, Photos

Principal photography is now complete on the highly anticipated new feature film CHURCHILL, which follows the eponymous icon in the days preceding one of the most important events in world history: D-Day. The five week shoot took place across various locations in Scotland, including Glasgow and Edinburgh.

As tensions mount in the days preceding D-Day, the now-beleaguered Prime Minister Winston Churchill, played by Brian Cox (The Bourne Supremacy, X-Men 2, Zodiac, War & Peace, Troy), must prepare a final attempt to crush Hitler’s encroaching army. With the entire War effort ultimately hinging on this decision, the stakes have never been higher. As the Wartime leader clashes with his generals, tension builds with the Americans, and Churchill must wrestle his inner-demons in order to navigate the Allies to victory.

Miranda Richardson (Harry Potter, Testament of Youth) plays his beloved wife Clemmie Churchill, with John Slattery (Mad Men, Captain America Civil War) as General Eisenhower, James Purefoy (Rome, The Following, High Rise) as King George VI, and rising-star Ella Purnell (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Tarzan) joining the cast as Churchill’s secretary. Further casting on the project showcases a host of renowned British talent, including Julian Wadham (War Horse, The English Patient), Danny Webb (Valkyrie, A Little Chaos), George Anton (Marcella, The Sweeney) Steve Cree (Brave) and Richard Durden (Wolf Hall, From Paris With Love).

Directed by Jonathan Teplitzky (The Railway Man, Marcella) and written by British historian and author Alex von Tunzelmann in her feature debut, CHURCHILL is a unique, challenging and intimate portrait of the man behind the public figure, widely regarded as the Greatest Briton of all time.

Ella’s upcoming film The Journey is the Destination is premieres at the TIFF Film Festival later this year, you can buy tickets, and find out more information here. The festival runs from September 8 – 18th.

Director Bronwen Hughes (Stander) and screenwriter Jan Sardi (Shine) recreate the inspiring life story of the late photojournalist, artist and activist Dan Eldon, who abandoned a comfortable life in London to document the struggle, heartbreak and hope of a war-torn and famine-ridden region of Africa.

Ella Purnell helps launch a charity to raise awareness about forced marriage, honour killings and female genital mutilation.

Educate 2 Eradicate was founded by Arifa Nasim, 19, to educate people about honour abuse.

Actress Ella Purnell, 19, is events manager for the charity and helped organise the launch. The pair attended Forest School in Walthamstow together.

Ella approached Arifa after she gave a talk about the charity in school and offered to get involved.

Ella said: “I’ve always felt strongly about defending the defenceless.

“It is shocking the amount of times that I have had to define FGM and forced marriage to people because they just don’t know.

“E2E is a genuine grassroots organisation that works in schools and I want to be a part of that grassoots change.”

Arifa said: “As a young actress she does have a platform to reach people.

“She was very keen to get involved.

“She is indispensable. She plays such a huge role in connecting us to people.

“She tweets about us and lets young people know we exist.”

The launch dinner was held on Thursday, July 14, the national day of remembrance for victims of honour abuse.

Arifa, hosted the dinner at Frederick Bremer Secondary School in Walthamstow, which featured in reality TV show Educating the East End, in 2014.

Arifa said reaching out to schools is key to educating the next generation.

She said: “I think the evening was a tremendous success.

“We had representatives from 12 different schools, which is the most vital part of Educate 2 Eradicate.

“We believe that change happens in schools.”

Arifa, from Walthamstow, gives talks in schools in an effort to educate teachers about the signs to watch out for if students are at risk of abuse, FGM or forced marriage.

June 21, 2016   Magazine Scans, Photoshoots

We have added a x02 photos of Ella which appears in the London Heroine Magazine. If anyone has scans, please send it in!

AGE: 19. HOMETOWN: East London, “Near Canary Wharf, a neighborhood called Isle of Dogs.” UP NEXT: Tim Burton’s adaptation of Ransom Riggs’s novel Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children; Access All Areas; The Journey Is the Destination.

JOHN ORTVED: How did you get discovered?

ELLA PURNELL: I did a bit of baby modeling. I loved it. At 9, I started taking classes at Sylvia Young Theatre School. One day they asked if I wanted to join their agency. You get in if you’re cute, I guess. When I was 11, I did Oliver! in the West End. I’m desperate to get back into theater; that’s my true passion. Cheesy musicals.

ORTVED: What’s it like working with Tim Burton?

PURNELL: We had a discussion before my audition. He asked questions: “What do you see Emma doing and saying and feeling?” It felt like a collaboration. In all the big scenes, he’d ask, “What do you think?” The kids love him. He’s like the Pied Piper.

ORTVED: Do you see yourself moving toward theater and musicals?

PURNELL: I hope. What I’m trying to do now is learn and improve and grow as a person. What I use when I’m acting comes from what I learn about myself. I didn’t go to drama school. I need to become a better actor before I go onstage. It’s harder to fake it onstage than onscreen.

ORTVED: What’s your peculiarity?

PURNELL: I can’t fly. I’m not full of beans. I can make an awesome duck noise. I do great animal impressions. [imitates a duck quack]

ORTVED: What are you reading?

PURNELL: The Girl Who Played With Fire. I think it’s really hard for filmmakers to adapt books. For Miss Peregrine, my character is different; she even has a different peculiarity than in the book. When people realized, I put out a statement: “Just trust me on this one.”

ORTVED: You grew up with siblings?

PURNELL: I have three younger brothers. Try doing puberty when you have three little brothers telling you how spotty and gross and disgusting you are.
