Production is underway on visionary filmmaker Tim Burton’s MISS PEREGRINE’S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN, based upon the best-selling novel Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, by Ransom Riggs.

The film, which 20th Century Fox releases in theaters everywhere March 4, 2016, stars Eva Green, Asa Butterfield, Ella Purnell, Chris O’Dowd, Allison Janney, Terence Stamp, Kim Dickens, Rupert Everett, with Judi Dench and Samuel L. Jackson.

Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping are producing under the Chernin Entertainment banner. The screenplay is by Jane Goldman.

The unforgettable, thrilling and haunting tale centers on 16-year-old Jacob (portrayed by Asa Butterfield), who follows clues that take him to a mysterious island, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores the abandoned bedrooms and hallways, he discovers that its former occupants were far more than peculiar; they possessed incredible powers. And they may still be alive.

MISS PEREGRINE’S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN will film in Florida before moving to locations in the United Kingdom and in Belgium.

Director Tim Burton is widely regarded as one of the cinema’s most imaginative filmmakers. His many credits include the recent Big Eyes, plus Alice in Wonderland, Batman, Batman Returns, Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands, Frankenweenie, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Pee-wee’s Big Adventure.

Ransom Riggs’ novel was published in 2011, followed in 2014 by a second book (in a planned trilogy), Hollow City.

One of the world’s largest producers and distributors of motion pictures, 20th Century Fox Film produces, acquires and distributes motion pictures throughout the world. The Richmond International Film Festival is proud to be screening the first feature film from Frank Hall Green.

“I knew my first feature would be set in the outdoors,” understates Frank Hall Green, whose film, Wildlike, covers an immense amount of ground. Like, actual ground. Intensely beautiful, sweeping, lush yet stark vistas of ground.

Green and his wife took a trip to Denali in 2003, and they could never quite get it out of their heads. After successfully establishing himself in show biz as a producer and writer and short-film director, it didn’t take long for Green to decide exactly what piece of outdoors he wanted his first feature film to inhabit.

“At the same time, I kept coming back to the idea to do something about sexual abuse and misogyny in general. One of the things that struck me several years ago when I started learning more [about sexual abuse]–all the victims really suffer lifetime damage,” Green explains about the jumping off point for Wildlike. “And then as I researched it more, I learned that the frequency of these events is not reported accurately.”

Wildlike‘s protagonist, Mackenzie (played by Ella Purnell) is, for all intense and purposes, unloaded onto an uncle who lives in Alaska. She’s a vulnerable 14-year-old with a newly dead father, her mom’s in some sort of mysterious and vaguely selfish-seeming treatment in Seattle, and she’s basically got no one in her corner.

Disappointingly, her uncle takes advantage of this situation. And in an especially tense scene in a particularly beautiful setting, Mackenzie gets the hell out of Dodge.

“The story of someone running into the outdoors and finding something there. I kind of put all the pieces together right at the same time. This is something she can run from and somewhere she can run to,” says Green.

Ella Purnell was 15 when she began filming. Her tendency to chew on her sleeves while her enormous eyes avoid contact is so perfectly troubled teenage girl that, if you’ve been a teenage girl yourself, you immediately recognize and unearth the discomfort, the anger, and the confusion you felt when you realized that adults sure know how to let someone down.

Green had auditioned a number of Disney and Nickelodeon actresses for the part, and nothing really clicked. They were too polished, and he knew the role required something more raw. He came back to his hotel room after a round of auditions in Los Angeles and caught some of Mark Romanek’s Never Let Me Go, in which Purnell plays Keira Knightley’s character’s younger self. Green had one of those “That’s it! That’s my Mackenzie!” moments that you see in films about filmmaking, and shortly thereafter, the actress was on board.

Samuel L. Jackson is the latest actor related to the Tim Burton-directed movie, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. Variety announced that Jackson is currently in talks for a part in the movie, nothing definite being yet announced. What is certain, nonetheless, is that if he accepts the part, he will act along with actress Eva Green, who is already officially assigned to the main role, that of Miss Peregrine herself.

Apart from collaboration with the Sin City actress Eva Green, Samuel L. Jackson would star along with numerous undiscovered or fresh talents, given that the fantasy movie centers on the relationship between Miss Peregrine and her ‘’peculiar children.’’ If he is only in the talk-stage, young actors like Asa Butterfield or Ella Purnell were already confirmed. Little Asa is considered for the part of Jacob Portman, the male lead, whereas Ella Purnell will play Emma.

Tim Burton’s upcoming picture is based on the debut novel by American author Ransom Riggs, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, published in June 2011. The fantasy novel became an immediate hit and the movie – considering the cast (including Samuel L. Jackson) and Tim Burton’s preference for fantasy and the peculiar – is likely to become one as well. The plot of the book is centered on the life of 16 years old Jacob Portman (Asa Butterfield) who travels to Wales to investigate on the life of his late grandmother. There, he discovers ‘’the derelict orphanage for peculiar children’’ and encounters Emma (Miss Ella Purnell), ‘’a strikingly pretty girl’’, with whom he time travels into the 1940’s to meet the orphanage director, Miss Peregrine.

Samuel L. Jackson’s joining the team of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children would represent the adding of a class A actor on a list of names of the future, with all the young ones involved. And, of course, the attractive Eva Green, who apart from being ‘’a dame to kill for’’, must now prove that ‘’the peculiar’’ becomes her. Apart from his current role as in Nick Fury in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Jackson also stars in Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight.
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children will be released on 4 March 2016.

After 25 years since filming “Edward Scissorhands”, Tim Burton may be back in Tampa Bay, Florida to shoot his next film, “Peregrine: Home for Peculiars”.

“They are like 99 percent confirmed. But chances are extremely good that they’ll be shooting here in the spring. It’ll be shooting primarily in London, but parts do take place in Florida,” news broke by St. Petersburg/Clearwater Film commission head, Tony Armer last Wednesday, December 8.

“It’ll be not necessarily beachy, but an old Florida home type of look. They’ll be shooting in some neighborhoods in Pinellas County, and also in Tampa,” he added.
Armer also said that the film isn’t receiving any funding from Florida (as published at TimeOut). “Because he’s Tim Burton; he can almost do whatever he wants. He has a little more sway, I guess you’d say, than your average filmmaker.”

Although there are no many news about the “Miss Peregrine: Home for Peculiar Children” movie adaptation, Burton is said to be starting filming it with Eva Green and Asa Butterfield next year, 2015.

“Peregrine: Home for Peculiars” will reunite Burton and Green after the two worked together in the film “Dark Shadows” in 2012.
Asa Butterfield has just recently confirmed his talks with Burton on his possible portrayal of the role of Jacob Portman, the 16-year-old boy who discovers the ruins of Miss Peregrine’s orphanage in Wales when he wants to find out the truth behind the death of his grandfather. But when he gets in the place, he also learns that there are still people living in the remains.

We thought that after all the hype following Ella’s new role in Tim Burtons new film project Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children – we would share a review of the book by the Guardian. It may contain some semi-spolers so don’t read on if you want the filmm to be a total surprise! We are really excited for Ella, and bought the book ourselves today …

‘The last 70 or so pages pretty much consisted of no breathing and jumping out of your skin when your cat leaps unexpectedly onto your lap’

This book wrenched me out of my chaotic, stressy, unorganised life and into a whole new one; the life of Jacob as he journeys to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. His entire family life is shrouded by a feeling of mystery and almost spookiness. Yes, I was kept up quite late at night, having a heart attack every time the bed creaked, or even worse, when the Divergent poster fell down on my head. You don’t recover from something like that.

The imaginative Tim Burton has chosen Ella Purnell to star in his forthcoming film, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. You can already figure from the title that many more fresh actors will star in the cinematic production, which makes the movie more challenging to direct and more tempting to watch, mainly for Tim Burton addicts.

Another youngish actor to appear next to Ella Purnell on the on-building list for Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is Asa Butterfield, already famous for working with director Martin Scorsese for the movie Hugo in 2011. Little Asa is considered for the part of Jacob Portman, central figure in the movie: ‘’Butterfield had been reported to be the favorite for the male lead. Sources now say he and Purnell have offers and negotiations are underway’’.

The upcoming motion picture is based on the debut novel by American author Ransom Riggs, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. The novel was published in June 2011 and reached the first position on the Children’s Chapter Books list in 2012, becoming a New York Times bestseller.

The plot revolves around the life of 16 year old Jacob Portman who travels to Wales to investigate on the life of his late grandmother. There, he discovers ‘’the derelict orphanage for peculiar children’’ and encounters Emma, ‘’a strikingly pretty girl’’, with whom he time travels into the 1940’s to meet the orphanage director, Miss Peregrine.

If Ella Purnell and Asa Butterfield are only in the negotiation process, Eva Green, Frank Miller’s Dame to Kill For is already reported as a definite part of the cast by Variety.com.

According to the source, production is likely to begin in 2015.

Two local charities that benefit children with cancer are partnering for an exclusive screening of the critically acclaimed movie “Ways to Live Forever” on Sunday, Nov. 2, at 3 p.m. at Penn Cinema, 541 Airport Road, Lititz.

In addition to raising money for children with cancer, the event will honor the memories of Eli Sidler of Lebanon and Jed Smith of Red Lion, who both lost their battles with cancer. The boys became buddies during their many years of treatment at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital. Smith had leukemia, and Sidler suffered from Ewing’s sarcoma.

Their families created the nonprofit foundations, jointly called Chemowarrior, that are presenting the movie. The Eli Sidler Foundation provides funding for childhood cancer research, and The Jedediah Thomas Smith Foundation offers financial support to area families who have a child with cancer.

Advance tickets for the screening are $15 and are available at www.chemowarrior.org (along with a link to the movie trailer) or through the Penn Cinema website, www.penncinema.com. Tickets will be sold at the door, but due to limited seating advance purchase is recommended.

“Ways to Live Forever” stars Robbie Kay (“Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”) as Sam, and Alex Etel (“Millions”) as Felix. The cast includes Greta Scaachi (“Emma,” “Flightplan”), Ben Chaplin (“The Remains of the Day,” “The Truth About Cats and Dogs”), Natalia Tena (HBO’s “Game of Thrones”), Ella Purnell (“Intruders,” “WildLike”) and Emilia Fox (BBC’s “Merlin”).

The film, based on the novel of the same title by Sally Nicholls, tells the story of two teenage boys with cancer who become friends when they meet in a hospital. Like most inquisitive boys, 12-year old Sam wants to know about UFOs, horror movies, ghosts and girls. Sam has leukemia and, although the adults in his life don’t want him to dwell on it, Sam wants to know everything about his disease and death, a possibility he might face. Together with his best friend, Felix, he embarks on a “scientific investigation” with questions, observations, evidence, reflections and lists of all the things he wants to do someday — like breaking a world record, flying in a blimp, kissing a girl for the first time, and experiencing what it’s like to be a teenager.

In this poignant yet ultimately uplifting tale, Sam and his family face the immensity of an uncertain future with love, humor and a touch of the unexpected.

“Ways to Live Forever” is distributed by World Wide Motion Pictures Corp.; website: www.wwmpc.com.

Chemowarrior: The Eli Sidler Foundation and The Jedediah Thomas Smith Foundation are 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. Net proceeds from the Nov. 2 event will be split between the two charities.

Although this isn’t an interview with Ella, its a great read, all about her movie Wildlike.

“I’m an avid backpacker and love the outdoors, so I wanted to tell a story about a journey in the wilderness and, I think I subconsciously really wanted to tell a story about the healing power of nature,” “Wildlike” writer, producer, and director Frank Hall Green told Hamptons.com when we sat down with him and “Wildlike” actor Nolan Gerard Funk during the Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF). “In addition to that, there’s a social issue component which is important to me,” noted the director.

When Mackenzie (Ella Purnell), a troubled teenage girl, is sent to live with her uncle (Brian Geraghty) in Juneau, Alaska, his guardianship is not what it seems, so the daring teen flees. As she desperately tries to contact her mother for help, Mackenzie falls deeper into the Alaskan wilderness and is suddenly helplessly alone. A timely encounter with a loner backpacker, Rene Bartlett (Bruce Greenwood), proves to be her only salvation.

“It’s very loud in its quietness,” Funk explained. The actor, who’s had roles in “Glee,” MTV’s “Awkward,” “The Canyons,” and “Riddick,” told us while he doesn’t have as much backpacking experience as Green, he thinks each character represents a different piece of the director. “He wrote the film, so there’s a part of him in all of us,” said Funk, who plays one of the backpackers Mackenzie meets along the way.
