Biography

Life and career

She was born in London, England, where she currently lives with her mother. Ella has two younger brothers by her father. She attends City of London School for Girls and began Year 9 in September 2010. She also attends weekly classes at Sylvia Young Theatre School, studying acting, singing and dance, and was formerly represented by their in-house talent agency, Young ‘Uns (now known as Sylvia Young Agency). She is now however represented by MFmanagement.

In 2008, she beat hundreds of other girls for a role in Oliver! at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in London. She was one of only a few girls chosen to appear in the children’s ensemble and remained in the show for a year.

Towards the end of her time in Oliver!, she won the role of Young Ruth in Mark Romanek’s Never Let Me Go – a feature film based on the acclaimed book by Kazuo Ishiguro. This was a main role, in which Ella played the younger version of Keira Knightley’s character; the script is set for the first half in Hailsham boarding school, where the main characters are children, and in the second half tells of their lives after leaving the school.

After filming this, Ella was cast as Kayleigh in Gustavo Rons Ways to Live Forever, adapted from the book by Sally Nichols. She was also cast as Mia in Juan Carlos Fresnadillos Intruders which filmed in the summer of 2010 in London and Madrid, Spain where she plays the daughter of Clive Owen and is the central character.

In 2011 Ella also appeared in the BBC HD Film Short Candy.

In 2012 it was announced that Ella will play mean girl, Dolce in Kick-Ass 2 with Chloe Moretz. The two young stars became good friends during filming and often tweet each other on twitter. Ella has said that she adores Chloe’s fashion sense and eveytime they meet up, she just looks so “neat”.

WildLike, a feature-length independent film by Frank Hall Green was Ella’s next project. The film was shot on location in Alaska during the summer of 2012.  The film follows an unlikely friendship in the spectacular wilderness, giving a runaway girl (Ella) hope and sanctuary in America’s last frontier.

Ella replaced India Eisley as the younger version of Angelina Jolie’s title character in MaleficentThe story explores Maleficent’s origins and what led her to curse Princess Aurora (Elle Fanning) in Disney’s animated classic Sleeping Beauty. The film originally wrapped in 2012 but the reshoot took place over eight days in September 2013 and addressed the opening of the film, which establishes Ella’s role as “teen” Maleficent. The film was rerleased in May 2014.

In October 2014 it was announced that she would star in Cyber Bully a Channel 4 film production opposite Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams.

In late 2014  Ella filmed scenes for Tarzan, where she will play young Jane (older Jane is played by Margot Robbie) the film is directed by David Yates and set for release July 1st 2016.
